what's in a name...

hurricane ivan hit us yesterday. well, actually, it kinda missed us. anyway, it really wasn't much of a hurricane if you ask me. i guess with name like ivan the terrible, i expected a worse. so, i hear next one is named gene. i couldn't help but wonder, what the heck kinda wimpy name is gene for a hurricane? it sure sounds more like a tropical depression or passive aggressive rain storm. i mean i know they do this alphabetical order thingy, so a name that starts with g and scary... why not use something like genghis kahn.... hurriacane genghis kahn... now, that my friend is scary.

i would be running around screaming genghis kahn is coming, genghis kahn is coming, run for your lives!!!

or how about using serial killer names like jeffery dahmer, a hurricane that took a bite outta ya.

hurricane jack the ripper, a hurricane that will rip your heart and your roofing.

hurricane charles manson, a hurricane that just went crazy.

hurricane ted bundy, a hurricane that will blow away your blouse and your skirt.

still there are more names like hurricane david berkowitz or hurricane john lynch or hurricane john wayne gacy...
... wow, that is too dang scary. i think almost soiled my pants.

i better go to bed, i hope i don't have nightmares....

they go in alphabetical order but what happened to D and E? they just couldn't think up any snazzy names for those letters and skipped them or were they just to whimpy in comparison to charlie and frances that they never made headlines?

I have to agree with you about powerfully named hurricanes. Ivan definietly demands trembling. CNN.com has a site with all the hurricane names this year and their strengths. Hurricane Jeanne (not Gene) is next up. But there are also Karl and Lisa.

In the Pacific there is one that would be called Paine. Now that is a scary name for a hurricane!
